
Darren Hogg was appointed accompanist to Quinborne Choir in July 2007 and plays for both rehearsals and concerts. He has brought considerable experience and expertise to the role and is respected throughout Birmingham, the Midlands and beyond.
Darren, who was born and educated in Birmingham, trained at Birmingham Conservatoire from 1989 to 1993, studying organ, harpsichord and piano accompaniment with David Saint and David Ponsford. He was appointed Organist and Director of Music at St Alban’s Church in Birmingham’s Highgate in 1997 and in 2004 took up the equivalent post at St Augustine’s Church in Edgbaston.
He is Organist at Aston University and is one of two organists at Lodge Hill Crematorium in Selly Oak, Birmingham. Darren also deputises at Birmingham Cathedral and is Accompanist and Assistant Director of Music for the Birmingham Choral Union. He is one of two accompanists for Solihull Chandos Choir, and also accompanies the City of Birmingham Choir from time to time.
He has performed with many other societies in the Midlands, including the Birmingham Bach Choir, the Canoldir Male Voice Choir and the Heart of England Singers. He has featured as Organist on BBC One’s Songs of Praise, BBC Radio Two’s Sunday Half Hour and BBC Radio Four’s Daily Service.
Darren has won various competitions, including the 1991 Birmingham and Midland Institute Organ Performance Prize and the 1992 Gordon Clinton English Song Competition Piano Accompanist Prize. He gives regular recitals at venues including Lichfield Cathedral, Leominster Priory, St Augustine’s Church in Edgbaston and St Alphege Church in Solihull.
Darren now runs his own private teaching practice (organ, music theory and piano). He is a member of the Birmingham Organists’ Association and is a full member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians. |
