Ellis D Shortt was appointed conductor of Quinborne Choir in January 1994 and brought to the post a wealth of musical experience gleaned over many years. Under his leadership, the choir has greatly expanded both its repertoire and musical ability.
Ellis acquired his basic technical grounding through organ and piano studies and as a boy singer. Later he studied with Professor Willis Grant, who at the time was organist and Master of Choristers at Birmingham Cathedral and Director of the Birmingham Bach Choir.
Following wide and varied experience with choirs throughout the Midlands, including a chamber group in Stratford-upon-Avon and the Birmingham University Guild Choir, Ellis founded the Zimriyah Choir. During his 25 years at the helm, the chorale came to be regarded as one of the finest Jewish choirs in the UK.
As well as bringing authority and imagination to his work with Quinborne Choir, Ellis has an ability to inspire his singers.
